The New Vision 21 volleyball team from Vatuwaqa is set on making a significant impact in this year’s Suva Volleyball Association club competition. Established recently, the team aims to empower local youth, and their progress under head coach Matayasi Suka has been notable.
Coach Suka noted that although many players are new to the sport, their talent and commitment have stood out. The team has had a winning start to their season, claiming victories in both of their matches due to opponents not showing up. Despite this unconventional beginning, the players’ enthusiasm for volleyball shines through.
Suka revealed that one of his main motivations for creating the team was to offer a positive outlet for the youth in the community, steering them away from challenges such as drug abuse and towards more promising pursuits. He expressed pride in the team’s performance, especially since for many players, this is their first experience with volleyball. “Participating in the competition has proven challenging, with strong teams to contend with, but the team is focused on gradual improvement and growth in the sport,” he stated.
The head coach also extended his thanks to the Suva Volleyball Association for enabling their participation and for the support given to help players enhance both their physical and mental capabilities.
This new team’s journey reflects a bright potential not only in terms of sporting achievements but also in positively influencing their community by fostering a healthy, active lifestyle among its youth. As they continue to grow, they offer a hopeful narrative of resilience and commitment to excellence in sports.
