In a significant initiative aimed at strengthening family ties and addressing community issues, Tui Sabeto, Ratu Viliame Mataitoga, has announced new regulations designed to confront urgent challenges within his village.
As part of his commitment to empowering Sabeto’s residents, Ratu Viliame has instituted a ban on kava consumption from midnight on Saturdays until 6 PM on Sundays, emphasizing the importance of family time and church attendance. He articulated that this measure is part of a larger effort to enhance community cohesion and combat the rising drug crisis affecting the area.
“This decision is about ensuring that we spend quality time with our families and emphasize what truly matters,” Ratu Viliame stated. He further expressed the necessity for the community to unite, especially in a time when modern life poses various pressures, urging a reconnection with cultural and spiritual roots.
In addition to the kava restrictions, the Tui Sabeto has placed a limit on vehicle movement into the village between 10 PM and 5 AM. This restriction aims to deter illegal activities, particularly drug sales and use, which tend to escalate during the night hours. By tightening control over access during these times, Ratu Viliame seeks to foster a safer living environment and diminish instances of drug-related disturbances.
