The Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) has reminded vehicle importers about new regulations regarding the importation of used vehicles, which will come into effect starting January 1, 2025. Under these new guidelines, only hybrid vehicles that are from the year 2020 or newer and diesel or petrol vehicles from the year 2017 or newer will be eligible for import into Fiji.
FRCS emphasized that all motor vehicle import licenses issued in 2024 for hybrid models from 2019 and diesel/petrol passenger vehicles from 2016 must be shipped out of their country of export by December 31, 2024. Any vehicles that do not meet these timelines will not qualify for an import license, will be categorized as prohibited imports, and will need to be re-exported at the importer’s expense.
To avoid any complications or inconveniences, FRCS urges vehicle dealers, traders, importers, and the general public to secure the necessary import licenses before shipping their vehicles to Fiji.
This move is a step towards modernizing Fiji’s vehicle fleet and promoting cleaner, more efficient vehicles within the country. By enforcing these regulations, the FRCS aims to enhance environmental standards and reduce emissions from older, less efficient vehicles, ultimately benefiting both the economy and the environment.
