The PacificAus Sports Netball Series is gearing up for its fifth edition, slated for February 2025, and will introduce an exciting new team to the competition. The event is scheduled to unfold at Brisbane’s Nissan Arena from February 17-22, with continued backing from the Australian Government through the PacificAus Sports program.
The main goal of the series remains to offer teams a high-caliber competitive environment and exposure to various playing styles, ultimately raising the global standard of netball. The tournament will showcase a vibrant array of Pacific teams, including the Fiji Pearls, Papua New Guinea (PNG) Pepes, Samoa Tifa Moana, and the reigning champions, Tonga Tala, who have impressively secured the title four consecutive times.
This year, the Australian First Nations Black Swans will return as domestic invitees, having made their debut at the 2024 Series. Additionally, the Scottish Thistles are set to make their inaugural appearance in the competition, adding an international flair to the series.
Kath Tetley, Head Coach of the Scottish Thistles, expressed her excitement for the opportunity, viewing it as a chance for her team to learn and develop by challenging themselves against elite teams from the Southern Hemisphere. Similarly, PNG Pepes’ Head Coach, Lua Rikis, shared her enthusiasm, emphasizing the importance of competing in international tournaments to build consistency and competitiveness for her team amid the elevated expectations of the series.
The diverse roster of teams underscores a concerted effort to enhance netball’s global presence, especially with the Netball World Cup approaching. Fans can look forward to the announcement of the fixtures for the 2025 PacificAus Sports Netball Series, which will be revealed later in 2025.
This upcoming series not only promises thrilling matches but also exemplifies the growth and collaboration within the global netball community, showing a bright future for the sport.
