A new library brimming with educational resources valued at over $8,000 has officially opened at Cautata District School in Tailevu. This significant development coincides with the launch of the Library Services of Fiji’s official website, which aims to enhance access to a wealth of learning materials.

The inauguration ceremony was led by Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro, who was joined by education officials, community leaders, teachers, parents, and students to celebrate the event. The new library, a collaborative effort with the Library Services of Fiji, provides essential resources including books, learning materials, shelves, tables, chairs, educational charts, toys, and digital devices. These resources are designed to support teaching and learning, while also motivating students to improve their reading and research capabilities.

During his address, Mr. Radrodro emphasized the vital role libraries play in enhancing education and broadening learning opportunities for students. He asserted that libraries serve as a catalyst for curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong passion for learning by granting students access to vital knowledge and information that are crucial for their academic growth.

In addition to the library opening, the Minister launched the new Library Services of Fiji website. This platform will offer a wide array of digital resources, including books, journals, newspapers, and online learning materials in iTaukei, Hindi, Fiji Hindi, Rotuman, and English.

As of now, 633 out of Fiji’s 745 primary schools and 159 of the country’s 181 secondary schools are equipped with functioning libraries. The Ministry is dedicated to further expanding both physical and digital library services, thereby strengthening reading and learning across Fiji. This commitment underscores an optimistic vision for the future of education in the nation, where students can thrive in an environment rich in resources and opportunities.
