The election for a new Speaker of Parliament is set for December 2, 2024. This follows the official vacancy that will arise on November 12 when Tui Cakau, the current Speaker, is inaugurated as the new President of the Republic of Fiji Islands.
In the interim, Ratu Naiqama will continue to serve in his role as Speaker and manage the responsibilities associated with the position until November 11. During the parliamentary session on December 2, members from both the Government and the Opposition will nominate candidates, followed by a voting process to fill the position.
This transition paves the way for fresh leadership within the Parliament, fostering opportunities for collaboration and insight from both sides of the political spectrum. As the nation looks forward to the forthcoming election, it presents a chance for a renewed focus on the priorities and concerns of Fijians, ultimately enhancing the democratic process in the country.
