The residents of Sawanikula Village, located in the Tikina of Muaira, are making strides toward the establishment of a new secondary school. This initiative was recently addressed during a meeting with Education Minister Aseri Radrodro, who supports the villagers’ plans to launch the school by 2026, focusing initially on Year 9 and 10 students.
Minister Radrodro highlighted that the Coalition Government is committed to enhancing educational opportunities for communities, allowing children to learn within their local areas. This initiative aims to keep students close to home, ensuring easier access to secondary education.
Parents in the community have been encouraged to guide their children to remain nearby, as the new school will bring educational resources to their doorsteps. Additionally, Radrodro proposed collaboration with nearby villages, suggesting that students from Nakurukuruvakatini Primary, Nasauvere Primary, and Naboro-Sawanikula Primary enroll to create a robust student body for the Year 9 rollout.
As part of the government’s efforts to support education, the Education Minister urged parents to take advantage of the $200 “Back to School” initiative. This program is designed to assist families in purchasing new uniforms, school sandals, books, and other essential school supplies for the upcoming 2026 academic year.
Radrodro emphasized the critical role parents play in their children’s education, stating that their involvement and support, combined with a partnership with teachers and schools, is vital for ensuring that students receive a high-quality education. The vision for the new secondary school represents a hopeful step towards enriching the educational landscape in the Sawanikula community and providing future generations with greater opportunities.
