The sealing of the Kawakawavesi Road and the frontage of Vunimanuca Primary School in Seaqaqa, Northern Division, has been warmly welcomed by students and teachers. The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) undertook the project, aiming to make travel safer and more reliable for the school community, with over 70 students set to benefit directly from these improvements.
Head Teacher Avilash Krishna highlighted the previous challenges posed by the road. Dust from the unsealed road during dry and cane-cutting seasons led to health issues among students, while muddy conditions during rainy periods made reaching the school difficult. With the new sealing and proper drainage culverts, these issues have been effectively addressed, enhancing daily commutes for students and teachers alike.
This project is part of the FRA’s continued efforts to improve accessibility and ensure safer travel for communities across Fiji. Similar initiatives have been undertaken recently in different regions, including the Qawa and Koronivia areas, where road upgrades have significantly improved daily commutes for residents and students, as well as facilitated better access to schools.
These infrastructure developments reflect a broader commitment by the FRA to enhance connectivity and improve living standards in rural areas. By addressing logistical challenges, such projects foster hope for better living conditions and community resilience. The focus on improving rural infrastructure highlights the importance placed on ensuring all Fijians have access to essential services like education and healthcare, promoting a sense of optimism and development throughout the nation.
