The Office of the Prime Minister has made a significant investment of $22,000 to construct a concrete access road for the Wailailai community on Ovalau, finally addressing a struggle that has persisted for decades.

Officially launched on November 1st, this new road represents a source of hope and strength for the Melanesian community of Wailailai. During the inauguration, Assistant Minister Sakiusa Tubuna underscored the importance of community unity, praising their collaborative efforts as a model for other villages in Fiji.

Previously, the poor condition of the road had severely restricted access to public services, compelling residents to carry supplies uphill for many years. Tubuna acknowledged their silent endurance, stating, “Today marks a new beginning,” and reaffirming the government’s commitment to inclusive support for all Fijians.

The completed road now provides essential connectivity for the Wailailai community, situated above the picturesque waters of Ovalau, opening doors to greater opportunities and improved services.

This development not only enhances the community’s infrastructure but also reflects a broader commitment to improving the quality of life for residents, paving the way for a brighter future. It serves as a hopeful reminder of the positive changes that can emerge through perseverance and collaboration.
