The Prime Minister’s Office has allocated $22,000 to build a concrete access road for the Wailailai community on Ovalau, addressing a long-standing challenge the residents have faced for decades. The road was officially opened on November 1st and stands as a symbol of hope and resilience for the Melanesian community in Wailailai.

During the inauguration, Assistant Minister Sakiusa Tubuna commended the community’s solidarity, suggesting their unified efforts could serve as an example for other villages across Fiji. He pointed out that the previous state of the road had severely restricted access to public services, forcing residents to transport supplies uphill for many years.

“You have endured in silence, but today marks a new beginning,” Tubuna remarked, emphasizing the government’s ongoing commitment to supporting all Fijians inclusively. The newly constructed road not only enhances connectivity for Wailailai’s proud inhabitants but also opens doors to new opportunities and support.

This development represents a positive step towards improving infrastructure in Fiji, showcasing how community resilience, backed by government action, can lead to meaningful change.

Overall, this investment reflects a hopeful and progressive approach to addressing long-term issues faced by rural communities, promoting both unity and development in the region.
