The Prime Minister’s Office has allocated $22,000 for the construction of a concrete access road benefiting the Wailailai community on Ovalau, addressing a long-standing challenge faced by residents. Inaugurated on November 1st, this new road represents a significant improvement and hope for the Melanesian community of Wailailai.

During the inauguration, Assistant Minister Sakiusa Tubuna commended the community’s strong unity and collaborative spirit, stating that their efforts should serve as an example for other villages in Fiji. He pointed out that the previous road conditions severely limited access to essential public services, forcing residents to transport supplies uphill for many years.

“You have endured in silence, but today marks a new beginning,” Tubuna remarked, emphasizing the government’s dedication to inclusivity and support for all Fijians.

The newly constructed road now connects the Wailailai community, nestled above the stunning Ovalau waters, with greater opportunities and resources. This initiative not only enhances accessibility but also fosters hope for future development and growth within the community.

In summary, this infrastructure project is a crucial step towards improving the quality of life for Wailailai residents, showcasing a proactive approach by the government to enhance rural access and promote community resilience. It reflects a commitment to inclusivity and underscores the impact of united efforts in overcoming challenges.
