New Regulations Set to Transform Food Safety and Fire Compliance in Fiji

The Cabinet has approved changes to the Food Safety Regulation 2009, the Health and Safety at Work (Administration) Regulations 1997, and the creation of the National Fire Service (Fire Safety Compliance Certificate) Regulations 2024.

These amendments and new regulations aim to achieve several objectives:

– Establish a streamlined payment structure for the National Fire Authority (NFA), National Occupational Health and Safety Services (NOHSS), and the Ministry of Health and Medical Services with a focus on upfront payment collection.
– Allow the acceptance of digitally generated documents from the NFA, NOHSS, and the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, including compliance reports, letters, and certificates that may feature electronic signatures.
– Modify the current renewal period to implement a cyclic approach.

These regulations align with the Starting a Business Subsystem (SABs), which is the initial phase of the BusinessNOW Fiji Project aimed at integrating essential e-services from over 16 government agencies onto a unified digital platform.
