After an exciting week filled with various activities and a strong commitment to charitable initiatives, Vani Dianilawe Tobakarakarawa, a 20-year-old, was crowned the new queen of the Vodafone Sugar Festival 2024.
Originating from Waciwaci, Lakeba, in Lau and with family ties to Yalobi, Waya, in Yasawa, the University of Fiji law student expressed her gratitude as she reflected on her achievement on Saturday night.
“Words are not enough to express how grateful I am,” she stated. “The journey has not been easy, but many incredible people have supported and guided me and my fellow contestants to reach this point.”
Sponsored by Travel Consultant and Tours, Vani took the opportunity to advocate for religious organizations to become more involved in combating the issue of illicit drugs.
“Churches have stepped beyond their traditional roles to welcome and support affected youths, providing them with a safe space and necessary social assistance,” she elaborated.
Farheen Saheb, Chief Financial Officer of Vodafone, served as the chief guest and emphasized the festival’s dedication to charitable efforts.
“Charity for the needy is not merely a theme for this festival; it serves as a reminder of our shared duty to lend a helping hand to those who are less fortunate and to strive for a more inclusive society,” Ms. Saheb remarked.
