New Presidential Nominee Sparks Hope for Unity in Fiji

After H.E. Ratu Wiliam Katonivere withdrew from the presidential nomination, Prime Minister Rabuka has put forward the Honourable Speaker, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu Na Gone Turaga Bale na Tui Cakau, for the role.

Rabuka stated that he consulted with the Parliamentary Caucus of The People’s Alliance, and Ratu Naiqama’s nomination has received formal endorsement from the Caucus.

He mentioned that the Turaga na Tui Cakau has agreed to accept the nomination for the presidency.

“As Prime Minister, I will present his name in accordance with section 84(2) of the Constitution during the special sitting of Parliament on Thursday, October 31, 2024.”

He urged all Fijians to join him and the Coalition Government in efforts to unite the nation and promote social cohesion, peace, unity, stability, and prosperity.
