New Presidential Nominee Emerges as Fiji Seeks Unity

After H.E. Ratu Wiliam Katonivere withdrew from the Presidential nomination, Prime Minister Rabuka has nominated Honourable Speaker Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu Na Gone Turaga Bale na Tui Cakau for the position.

Rabuka noted that he consulted with the Parliamentary Caucus of The People’s Alliance, which officially endorsed Ratu Naiqama’s nomination for the Presidency. He confirmed that Ratu Naiqama has given his formal consent to the nomination.

“As Prime Minister, I will present his name under section 84(2) of the Constitution during the special session of Parliament scheduled for Thursday, October 31, 2024,” Rabuka stated.

He urged all Fijians to join him and the Coalition Government in their efforts to unite the nation, emphasizing the importance of social cohesion, peace, unity, stability, and prosperity.
