Former SODELPA general secretary Lenatasi Duru is collaborating with members of the G16 Opposition to explore the establishment of a new political party. Duru’s decision comes after his resignation from SODELPA in December 2022, prompted by the party’s coalition with The People’s Alliance and the National Federation Party (NFP).

In light of recent challenges within the Coalition government, Duru has voiced concerns, particularly regarding the inclusion of former FijiFirst parliamentarians in key ministerial roles. He highlighted the ongoing political maneuvering needed to ensure stability, stating, “Where the Prime Minister is coming from, he needs to secure his position, especially with Government constantly under threat.”

He aims to introduce an alternative political vision, asserting, “We are trying to offer something different. Politics is a game where you play your cards and play them right.”
