Newly appointed Minister for Policing, Ioane Naivalurua, made his first official visit to the Fiji Police Force headquarters where he was warmly welcomed by Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police, Sakeo Raikaci. During this visit, Naivalurua expressed his dedication to tackling the challenges facing the police force and emphasized the importance of restoring trust within the communities they serve.

“It’s too early to predict outcomes, but I’m eager to collaborate with you to win back the hearts of the people we serve,” Naivalurua stated, urging police personnel to rise above criticism and demonstrate their effectiveness through tangible actions. Naivalurua, a former Commissioner of Police, brings valuable experience to his new position and is committed to conducting comprehensive briefings with police officials in the coming week to better understand the ongoing issues.

His leadership arrives at a critical juncture, following the interim oversight of former Minister Pio Tikoduadua, who faced multiple unresolved investigations affecting the police portfolio. One of Naivalurua’s key initiatives will be the “Restore Blue” program, aimed at enhancing police accountability and operational standards with the support of international partners, which signifies a hopeful direction for revitalizing the Fiji Police Force.

Naivalurua’s proactive engagement and focus on collaboration suggest a positive outlook for future policing in Fiji. With strategic planning and community collaboration, he has the potential to initiate meaningful reforms that could restore faith in law enforcement and enhance public safety throughout the nation. This new chapter in leadership symbolizes an opportunity for substantial improvements, addressing past challenges while fostering a more effective police force dedicated to serving the communities they protect.
