The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) is scheduled to convene on December 19 to finalize the appointment of the next Commissioner of Police. Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, who also serves as the Chairperson of the COC, provided this update today.
Rabuka stated that a special selection panel has been established to review and shortlist candidates, who have now been recommended for consideration. However, he noted that he is not privy to the identities of those shortlisted, as that information is managed by the COC Secretariat.
The selected candidate will receive endorsement from His Excellency the President upon the Prime Minister’s advice.
This appointment is significant as it will determine the leadership of the police force, and the upcoming meeting promises to bring clarity to this essential role in maintaining law and order.
In a broader context, the process showcases a commitment to due diligence in selecting a qualified leader for such an important position, promoting hope for improved governance and effective law enforcement in Fiji.
