The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) is scheduled to convene on December 19 to finalize the appointment of the new Commissioner of Police. This announcement was made by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, who serves as the Chairperson of the COC.
Rabuka noted that a special selection panel has already been formed to review candidates for the position and has provided recommendations based on their shortlist. However, he mentioned that he does not have details on the shortlisted candidates, as that information is being held by the COC Secretariat.
Once a candidate is selected, the appointment must be endorsed by His Excellency the President, based on the Prime Minister’s advice.
This process reflects a structured and formal approach to a significant leadership position within law enforcement, ensuring that the selection is made thoughtfully and with due diligence. The upcoming meeting could potentially usher in a new chapter for the Police force, bringing forth fresh leadership and innovative strategies to enhance public safety.
Overall, the transparency of the selection process instills confidence in the public and indicates a commitment to upholding the integrity of governance.
