Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced that the Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) will soon consider appointing a new Commissioner of Police as soon as the recommendations are reviewed. As the chairperson of the COC, Rabuka informed the media that the Secretariat has set a date to address this important issue.
Rabuka emphasized the Commission’s commitment to evaluating the numerous applications submitted for the role of Commissioner of Police (COMPOL). With over 20 applications received before last month’s deadline, the commission aims to find a suitable candidate to lead the police force.
Additionally, Minister for Home Affairs Pio Tikoduadua stated that he would be consulted on the new appointment, although that conversation has yet to take place. Presently, Assistant Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew is serving in an acting capacity.
This proactive approach from the government signifies a willingness to make timely decisions in vital leadership positions, ultimately enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of police operations. It reflects a broader commitment to public safety and governance, ensuring the best candidates are considered for top roles in law enforcement.
In summary, the decision-making process regarding the new Commissioner of Police is underway, with the Prime Minister and Home Affairs Minister actively involved in the selection, which bodes well for the future of law enforcement leadership in the country.
