Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced that the Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) will begin the process of appointing a new Commissioner of Police (COMPOL) as soon as they receive the necessary recommendations. In a recent media briefing, Rabuka, who also serves as the Chairperson of the COC, confirmed that a date has been set for the Secretariat to review the applications for this important position.

He highlighted the intention to convene soon to evaluate the more than 20 applications that were submitted before last month’s deadline. Meanwhile, Minister for Home Affairs Pio Tikoduadua stated that he would be consulted by the COC regarding the new COMPOL, although that consultation has not yet taken place. Until a new appointment is made, Assistant Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew will continue to serve in an acting capacity.

This upcoming appointment is crucial for maintaining law and order, and there is optimism that the new Commissioner of Police will bring fresh perspectives and strategies to enhance safety in the community. As the COC carefully reviews the candidates, it is a time of opportunity for the police force to strengthen its leadership.

Overall, this process demonstrates the commitment of the Fijian leadership to ensure transparent and methodical governance in public safety roles.
