Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced that the Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) will soon review recommendations for appointing a new Commissioner of Police. As the chairperson of the COC, Rabuka expressed his anticipation for the Secretariat to present the applications for the position, which closed last month.
During a media briefing, Rabuka indicated that a date has been set for the commission to convene and discuss the various applications submitted for the role. He also noted that Minister for Home Affairs Pio Tikoduadua will be consulted regarding the new appointee, although that discussion has yet to take place.
Currently, Assistant Commissioner Juki Fong Chew is serving in an acting capacity while the appointment process unfolds.
This transition in leadership within the police force is crucial for maintaining stability and ensuring effective law enforcement. The COC’s thorough evaluation of candidates reflects a commitment to finding the most suitable individual for this significant role. With over 20 applications received, there is potential for strong leadership to emerge, which could positively impact the community’s safety and well-being.
