The Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) recently celebrated the transition of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers from the Solomon Islands to the Republic of Gambia. This leadership change aligns with the concept of equitable regional rotation established in the Revised Georgetown Agreement, emphasizing the value of collaboration among member states.
OACPS Secretary-General Moussa Saleh Batraki expressed appreciation for the outgoing President, Solomon Islands Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade Peter Shanel Agovaka. He lauded Agovaka’s effective leadership, which played a crucial role in navigating the Council through a challenging period. Batraki highlighted Agovaka’s contributions to advancing institutional reforms, enhancing financial consolidation efforts, and orchestrating preparations for the 11th OACPS Summit of Heads of State and Government.
Seedy K. M. Keita, the new President and Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs of Gambia, outlined his priorities for the presidency. He emphasized the importance of financial sustainability, governance reforms, resource mobilization, and fostering strong political engagement in the lead-up to the upcoming Summit.
This transition is significant as the OACPS intensifies its preparations for the 11th OACPS Summit, which will take place in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, from March 27 to 29, 2026. The organization aims for continuity, unity, and a results-driven approach to enhance multilateral cooperation among its members, setting a hopeful tone for future collaborations and initiatives.
