The Bureau of the OACPS Committee of Ambassadors for the term of February to July 2026 convened its inaugural meeting at the OACPS headquarters in Brussels recently. The meeting was led by Ambassador Pa Musa Jobarteh from The Gambia, who serves as the Chair of the OACPS Committee of Ambassadors. The Secretary-General of OACPS, Moussa Saleh Batraki, was also present at this important gathering.
During the meeting, members of the Bureau discussed various agenda items, including the timeline for future meetings of the Committee of Ambassadors and preparations for the upcoming 11th OACPS Heads of State and Government Summit, which is scheduled to take place in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea from March 27 to 29, 2026. The committee also addressed other significant matters that are pertinent to the Member States.
The OACPS Bureau consists of ambassadors selected by their regional counterparts to provide representation across the organization’s six regions. For the term running from February to July 2026, the Bureau’s composition includes:
– Chair: The Gambia
– West Africa: Ghana
– Central Africa: to be confirmed
– East Africa: Maldives
– Southern Africa: Mozambique
– Caribbean: Guyana
– Pacific: Timor-Leste
Additionally, the Bureau Troika is made up of the outgoing Committee of Ambassadors Chair from Solomon Islands (Pacific), along with representatives from The Gambia (West Africa) and Ethiopia (East Africa).
The establishment of this new Bureau highlights the ongoing commitment of OACPS member states to foster collaboration and tackle pressing issues of mutual importance while preparing for significant forthcoming events. This proactive approach demonstrates a determined effort toward unity and advancement within the framework of the organization.
