A new team, Naila Flyers Netball Club, has joined the NewWorld Suva Netball Association for the upcoming 2025 season, aiming to elevate the level of competition and skill development among its players. The association kicked off its competitive season last weekend, officially welcoming the new club into its lineup alongside established teams such as Lomaiviti, CBM, Rovers, Tiki, Tagimoucia, Grasshoppers, Ablaze Hearts, Huva Stallions, Army, and Team CAN.
According to Naila Flyers’ secretary, Kali Nakelo, the move to Suva will provide their players with opportunities to engage with some of the top netball talents in the country. “We believe that by competing in Suva, our players will enhance their knowledge and skills in the sport, and exposure to stronger leagues is crucial for their growth,” Nakelo stated.
The season opener featured knockout matches played across three divisions: open women, open men, and development. Notably, Lomaiviti triumphed in both the women’s and development categories, while Tiki clinched victory in the men’s grade.
Suva Netball president, Alumeci Sachs, commended the support from club officials and reiterated the potential for the current season, stating that the 2025 season is shaping up to be even more competitive and successful.
As the season progresses, there is a sense of enthusiasm in the community surrounding the growth of netball in Suva, especially with the addition of new teams like Naila Flyers. Their commitment to fostering player development indicates a bright future for the sport in the region, with the potential for increased talent and community support.
