New Nadi Police Station Boosts Tourism Safety in Fiji

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism Viliame Gavoka recently proclaimed that the new Nadi Police Station embodies a commitment to safety, integrity, and a steadfast dedication to all residents and visitors of Fiji. This state-of-the-art facility will enhance police operations in the region, particularly addressing the unique needs of tourists given Nadi’s status as a key tourism hub and major entry point into the country.

Gavoka articulated that Nadi serves not just as a town but as a vital gateway to Fiji, supporting a diverse community that includes schools, farms, resorts, and transportation networks. It plays host to thousands of international visitors each year. He remarked, “This station is a symbol of renewal, a place where integrity and courage are not just expected, but lived,” encouraging officers to lead by example and foster public trust.

The minister highlighted Nadi’s rapid growth, with increasing flights, families moving in, and business opportunities emerging. He emphasized that growth brings responsibilities that the police must meet with professionalism and community partnerships. Officers are now tasked with heightened vigilance and collaboration with local citizens to ensure a secure environment.

The Nadi Police District is supported by the main station, complemented by four community posts located in Nawai, Nawaicoba, Market, and Mulomulo. The new $20 million facility was completed on November 30, 2023, marking an important step in the government’s broader strategy to strengthen law enforcement infrastructure as the region develops.

This initiative underscores a significant focus on public safety in Fiji, with the establishment of a dedicated Tourist Police Team aimed at providing specialized support and reassurance to visitors. The station’s opening not only enhances operational efficiency but also reflects the government’s commitment to addressing rising security needs as Nadi continues to grow.

While recent initiatives like the Nadi Police Station signify progress, they also align with broader efforts within Fiji to bolster public safety measures, such as the recent inauguration of the Nakasi Police Station. These developments indicate a concerted governmental strategy to enhance police capabilities and community trust, paving the way for a more secure future in Fiji for both residents and tourists. The overarching push for safety is not just about managing crime; it’s also about fostering a welcoming atmosphere that encourages tourism and economic growth, ultimately benefiting all who call Fiji home.
