A new multipurpose court has been inaugurated in the Vunidawa area of Naitasiri, marking a significant development for the community. Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, officiated the commissioning of the facility in Nakorovatu Village, highlighting its role as a vital resource for local youth.
Valued at $169,000, this court is the first of its kind in the province, and its establishment was initiated by the Naitasiri Provincial Council during 2020-2021. Designed to accommodate various sports, including volleyball, netball, basketball, and futsal, the court will also serve as a venue for community tournaments.
During the opening ceremony, Saukuru emphasized that the court symbolizes more than just a place for sports. “This facility is a safe haven where our youth can unite and engage in positive activities away from social challenges,” he remarked. He expressed hope that it would be a space for participants to develop their skills, potentially leading to greater opportunities on national and international platforms.
Saukuru reiterated the Ministry’s ongoing dedication to youth empowerment, stating, “We see your potential, and we are investing in your future.” This initiative highlights the Ministry’s broader commitment to fostering resilient and thriving communities through the creation of supportive environments for the youth.
He expressed gratitude to the many stakeholders involved in the project, including the Fiji Sports Council, the Fiji National Sports Commission, and local government offices, underscoring the collaborative effort that brought the court to fruition.
