The youth of Tuatua Housing in Labasa have celebrated the opening of a newly built multipurpose court, significantly expanding recreational options in their locality. This project, valued at $168,458, was officially inaugurated by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Minister Jese Saukuru highlighted that this court is more than just a sports venue; it serves as a crucial platform for personal growth, community connection, and the development of leadership skills among young individuals. He said, “The Tuatua Multipurpose Court exemplifies our commitment to ensuring that young people in rural and underserved communities have opportunities to thrive in sports and beyond.” This initiative is part of a broader governmental strategy aimed at enhancing sports infrastructure throughout Fiji, ensuring that safe and modern facilities are available for various sporting activities.

Local youth representative Malakai Alofi shared his excitement about the positive effects of the new facility, noting that it enables young people to transition from grassy areas to a proper court. He mentioned that the facility has already fostered collaboration among players from nearby regions, promoting increased participation in sports like volleyball and netball.

The Tuatua court is notably the third multipurpose facility established in Labasa, following the openings in Naodamu Housing and Subrail Park. To maintain these facilities for their intended purposes, the Fiji Sports Council will supervise their management, optimizing their potential in youth and community development.

These advancements showcase the government’s dedication to enhancing facilities that encourage physical activities and nurture community spirit. This optimistic movement not only enriches the recreational environment but also motivates the youth to engage in healthy pursuits, supporting their talents and fostering hope for a brighter future for Fiji’s younger generations.
