Seven members of the opposition, part of the Group of 9, are preparing to be officially sworn in as ministers today. The ceremony is set to occur at the State House at 11 a.m.
Ioane Naivalurua, the group’s leader and a former Police Commissioner, is expected to be appointed as the Minister for Police. Viliame Naupoto is anticipated to take over the Immigration portfolio, while Mosese Bulitavu is likely to be assigned the crucial Climate Change portfolio.
The other members stepping into assistant minister roles include Aliki Bia who is earmarked for the Assistant Minister for Information position, Naisa Tuinaceva, the former CEO of the Land Transport Authority (LTA), will reportedly serve as the Assistant Minister for Transport and Infrastructure. Ratu Josaia Niudamu is expected to handle the Assistant Minister for Justice role, and Penioni Ravunawa is set to take on the Assistant Minister for Health position. Notably, all these portfolios are presently held by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.
