Following the recent dismissal of Cabinet Minister Lynda Tabuya, Sashi Kiran has stepped in as the new Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection. Ms Kiran was sworn into her new role on Friday, shortly after the controversy surrounding Ms Tabuya, who faced negative attention due to a leaked video.

In her new position, Ms Kiran is determined to maintain the focus and integrity of the ministry, emphasizing the importance of continuing to serve the needs of the people, particularly the vulnerable members of society. She acknowledges the challenges presented by Ms Tabuya’s situation but is committed to ensuring the ministry carries out its responsibilities effectively. “There is trust, and our concern is to ensure that we get the work done,” Ms Kiran stated.

With experience already in the ministry as the Assistant Minister since the beginning of the Coalition Government, Ms Kiran is prepared to lead and seeks the support of all Fijians as she embarks on this new chapter.

This transition presents an opportunity for renewal and focus on the vital work needed within the ministry. Ms Kiran’s commitment and prior experience suggest that she can navigate the ministry through this challenging time and work towards enhancing the welfare of women, children, and families in Fiji.

In summary, Sashi Kiran’s appointment brings hope for continuity and progress in the ministry’s efforts to uplift the vulnerable, despite recent challenges.
