New Minister Vows to Empower Women and Protect Children in Fiji

Sashi Kiran, the newly appointed Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, has expressed her strong commitment to tackling the various challenges facing society. Following her swearing-in ceremony at the State House, Kiran emphasized the significance of her role, stating that her work will profoundly impact families, communities, and the nation’s future.

Kiran acknowledged the valuable contributions of her predecessor, Lynda Tabuya, recognizing her leadership as a solid foundation for the ministry’s ongoing efforts. She expressed gratitude for Tabuya’s commitment, stating that the journey to empower women, protect children, and support the most vulnerable members of society is a collective endeavor.

Highlighting the importance of women in families, the workforce, and communities, Kiran pointed out the ongoing barriers to equality, safety, and opportunity that many women face. She pledged to strengthen initiatives that promote women’s economic empowerment, ensure gender equality, and create leadership opportunities for women across all areas of life.

Kiran also underscored the need to prioritize children’s protection, education, and well-being, vowing to combat child abuse and support vulnerable families. She emphasized the importance of fostering safe environments for children, allowing them to thrive and hope for a bright future.

Furthermore, Kiran’s commitment extends to marginalized groups, including the elderly and individuals with disabilities. She promised to review and enhance social protection programs to ensure they are inclusive and responsive to the community’s needs.

This new leadership can be viewed as a hopeful step toward creating a more equitable and supportive society. Kiran’s emphasis on collaboration and inclusivity could pave the way for significant advancements in the welfare of women and children, ultimately strengthening the fabric of the nation.
