Newly appointed Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran, has expressed her commitment to steering the ministry forward, despite the controversy surrounding her predecessor, Lynda Tabuya. Kiran’s swearing-in on Friday followed Tabuya’s dismissal due to the circulation of a controversial nude video on social media.
In her first statements as a minister, Kiran acknowledged the challenges presented by the situation but emphasized the importance of continuing the ministry’s work in supporting vulnerable populations. “There is trust, and we must focus on getting the work done,” she stated, underlining her priority to maintain the ministry’s mandate.
Kiran, who has served as the Assistant Minister since the inception of the Coalition Government, is poised to enhance the operations of the ministry as she calls upon all Fijians to support her in this new role. Her determination to move past the previous turmoil signals a hopeful outlook for future initiatives aimed at uplifting the communities most in need.
This transition offers an opportunity for fresh leadership and innovation at the ministry, potentially leading to positive changes for those it serves. Kiran’s experience and resolve may well pave the way for a strengthened focus on social protection during her tenure.
