New Mini Private Hospital Set to Transform Healthcare in Suva

A businessman in Suva has announced plans to construct a mini private hospital aimed at enhancing healthcare services in the region. Azad Ali, the managing director of the Island Group of Companies, has identified a site on Extension Street for the proposed facility and is currently working on the legal acquisition of the land with his lawyers. An architect has also been engaged to begin the design process for the complex.

Ali’s experience during the COVID-19 pandemic and a personal health battle with cancer in late 2023 have inspired his commitment to improve healthcare in Fiji. The Island Medical Centre, which he established in mid-2022, has already made strides by expanding its services from eye care to a broader range of general medical services.

The vision for the new hospital includes three operating theatres dedicated to eye surgeries, general minor surgeries, and diabetic foot care. With a reported 100 percent success rate in eye surgeries at the existing medical center, Ali’s initiative reflects a positive outlook for healthcare accessibility in Suva.

This move aligns with a growing trend in Fiji to boost healthcare infrastructure and health tourism. Comparable projects, such as the development of new specialized health departments like cardiology, indicate ongoing efforts to elevate medical services for both local residents and international patients seeking affordable care.

Overall, Ali’s project is a hopeful initiative that promises to provide local treatment options and contribute positively to Fiji’s healthcare landscape. Enhancing local medical facilities is crucial for the community and can play a significant role in strengthening Fiji’s reputation as a health tourism destination.
