The proposal for a Ministry of Men has garnered significant backing from Reverend Taniela Baleinakorodala, the Vice Principal of Davuilevu Theological College. He emphasizes that establishing such a ministry is a crucial measure for tackling violence against women and children.
Rev Baleinakorodala points out that while the Methodist Church has initiated men’s programs, persistent harmful cultural norms still afford men unchecked authority and influence. He stresses that many damaging behaviors remain unaddressed, perpetuating harm within families and communities.
To address these issues effectively, he advocates for the initiative to make its way into villages, providing straightforward and practical training. This approach, he believes, will empower communities and bolster the protection of families.
“I think the suggestion to have a men’s ministry is quite important; it should not be silenced but taken up, with deeper collaboration, awareness raising, and practical training,” remarked Rev Baleinakorodala.
Additionally, he calls for enhanced cooperation among institutions, communities, and cultural leaders, underscoring the necessity of reshaping attitudes and steering men towards responsible behavior. His remarks underscore the pressing need for a united effort to combat gender-based violence, highlighting a path toward positive change and community resilience.
