New Machinery Boosts Fiji’s Public Works Capacity

This week, the Ministry of Public Works, Meteorological Services, and Transport received a shipment of SHANTUI-branded machinery from Vision Motors. The equipment comprised two large excavators, two D6 bulldozers, two dumper trucks, and two flat top trucks, with a total value exceeding $1.62 million.

Paula Baleilevuka, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Public Works, accepted the machinery on behalf of the ministry, noting that this delivery marks the first acquisition of new machines in over a decade. He emphasized the importance of these vehicles in enhancing maintenance work in rural and remote areas and improving support during emergencies.

Ajay Lal, the dealer principal at Vision Motors, praised the ministry for selecting them as its supplier and assured the government of their commitment to meet its needs and provide robust support for each brand.

Lal highlighted that SHANTUI, founded in 1953 in China, serves as a significant technological partner for the prominent Caterpillar brand, offering equipment at a fraction of the cost. Baleilevuka mentioned that the new machines will play a key role in both ongoing and planned projects within the ministry. Additionally, the ministry anticipates the addition of more large machines to its fleet during the current financial year.
