The Public Service Commission, with the agreement of Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, has announced the appointment of Paula Cirikiyasawa as the new Permanent Secretary for Lands and Mineral Resources, effective September 30, 2024. Cirikiyasawa will succeed Dr. Raijeli Taga, who is transitioning to a new role after four years of dedicated service in this position.
Cirikiyasawa comes with over twenty years of professional experience, having previously held senior roles in the Ministry of Commerce, Business Development and Investment, and the National Planning Office before joining the UNDP. Since 2018, he has been with the UNDP, where he has utilized his skills to contribute to global development initiatives.
PSC Chairperson Luke Rokovada expressed excitement about Cirikiyasawa’s appointment, citing his proven leadership, innovation, and strategic vision as key qualities for the role. As Permanent Secretary, Cirikiyasawa will oversee the Ministry’s strategic direction and operations, emphasizing innovation, expansion, and sustainability. He is eager to apply his expertise within the Ministry and is committed to fostering continued growth and success.
Cirikiyasawa holds a master’s degree in International Relations & Diplomacy along with a bachelor’s degree in Economics & Political Science. Meanwhile, Dr. Raijeli Taga will continue with the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources and will assume her new position in mid-October 2024. Rokovada acknowledged Taga’s significant contributions to the Ministry’s successes during her leadership.
