Prime Minister and chairman of the Constitutional Officers Commission has announced that Rusiate Tudravu will be nominated as the new Commissioner of Police. He is set to assume the role on February 3, 2025.
Mr. Rabuka noted that the Commission’s decision was unanimous, confirming there was no conflict of interest in the appointment. Mr. Tudravu will have to resign from his current position as chairman of the Tailevu Provincial Council.
Tudravu has a long tenure in law enforcement, having resigned from the Fiji Police Force in August 2021 after 39 years of service. At the time of his resignation, he held the position of Deputy Commissioner and had previously acted as Commissioner for a period of 12 months when the former Commissioner, Brig-Gen Qiliho, was studying abroad in the UK.
This appointment brings a wealth of experience back to the leadership of the Fiji Police Force, and many hope that Tudravu’s extensive history in law enforcement will bring positive changes and improvements to safety and community relations in Fiji.
It is a hopeful development for the police force, as the new Commissioner has a proven track record and a strong understanding of the challenges facing law enforcement today.
