The Public Service Commission, in conjunction with Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, has announced the appointment of Paula Cirikiyasawa as the new Permanent Secretary for Lands and Mineral Resources, effective September 30, 2024. He takes over from Dr. Raijeli Taga, who will transition to a new role after four years of dedicated service in the position.
Cirikiyasawa brings over 20 years of professional experience, having previously held various senior roles within the Ministry of Commerce, Business Development and Investment, and the National Planning Office, before joining the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Since 2018, he has been contributing to global development initiatives at UNDP.
PSC Chairperson Luke Rokovada expressed excitement about Cirikiyasawa’s appointment, citing his proven leadership skills, innovative approach, and strategic vision as key attributes for leading the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources. In his new role, Cirikiyasawa will oversee the Ministry’s strategic direction and operations, with an emphasis on innovation, growth, and sustainability. He is eager to leverage his expertise to foster ongoing development and success within the Ministry.
Cirikiyasawa holds a master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy, along with a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science. Meanwhile, Dr. Raijeli Taga will continue with the Ministry and assume her new position in mid-October 2024. Rokovada acknowledged Dr. Taga’s significant contributions to the Ministry’s achievements during her tenure.
