The Public Service Commission, with the approval of Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, has appointed Paula Cirikiyasawa as the new Permanent Secretary for Lands and Mineral Resources, effective September 30, 2024. Cirikiyasawa takes over from Dr. Raijeli Taga, who will transition to a new position after four years of dedicated service in the role.
Cirikiyasawa brings over 20 years of professional experience, having previously worked in various senior positions within the Ministry of Commerce, Business Development and Investment, and the National Planning Office before joining the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). He has been a contributor to global development efforts with UNDP since 2018.
Luke Rokovada, Chairperson of the Public Service Commission, expressed enthusiasm about Cirikiyasawa’s appointment, citing his strong leadership skills, innovative approach, and strategic vision as key qualities that make him well-suited to lead the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources. In his new role, Cirikiyasawa will focus on directing the Ministry’s strategic goals, emphasizing innovation, growth, and sustainability.
Cirikiyasawa holds a master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy, along with a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science. Dr. Raijeli Taga will continue with the Ministry and will assume her new position in mid-October 2024. Rokovada acknowledged Dr. Taga’s significant contributions to the Ministry, highlighting her leadership during a period of considerable achievements.
