Women’s Fund Fiji (WFF) has named Victoria Yee as its new Executive Director, a position she steps into after serving as the Acting Executive Director during the organization’s recent transition. Patricia Naisara, the Chair of the Governance Board, expressed confidence in Vicky’s leadership, noting her extensive experience and unwavering commitment to empowering women’s organizations throughout Fiji.
Vicky Yee has dedicated over 20 years to advancing social policy and driving change at the grassroots level, having worked with prominent organizations including the International Labour Organization and the University of the South Pacific. In her new role, Yee aims to enhance WFF’s mission of advancing gender justice and feminist leadership, ensuring that women-led initiatives receive the necessary resources to create impactful change.
Reflecting her commitment, Yee stated, “The feminist movement in Fiji and the Pacific is strong, and I look forward to collaborating with our partners, grantees, and stakeholders to align with the vision and values of the Fund.” Her leadership comes at a crucial time, as WFF continues to propel women’s rights and organizations in the region.
WFF, established in 2017, serves as the Pacific’s first national women’s fund and focuses on providing sustainable funding and capacity building to women’s groups. With Yee at the helm, the organization is well-positioned to expand its reach and strengthen its impact, continuing to champion grassroots movements and amplify women’s voices across Fiji.
This appointment coincides with WFF’s ongoing commitment to support diverse women-led organizations, which was recently illustrated by its 2024 grant cycle initiative, awarding funds to 17 new partners aimed at promoting gender equality. This combination of leadership and strategic funding showcases a hopeful trajectory for both WFF and the broader feminist movement in Fiji, indicating a strengthened commitment to empowering women and creating sustainable change in their communities.
