Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) has named Fatiaki Gibson as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. The announcement was made by EFL Board Chair Rokoseru Nabalarua during a press conference. Gibson, who previously held the position of General Manager for Major Projects at EFL, has a strong background that spans over 34 years in the energy sector, including 26 years at the Fiji Electricity Authority (now EFL).
Nabalarua emphasized Gibson’s extensive experience in energy infrastructure, regulatory compliance, and renewable energy development as critical assets during this significant transition for the company. The appointment comes at a crucial juncture as EFL aims to enhance its sustainability efforts, specifically targeting a transition to 90% renewable energy by 2035, aligning with Fiji’s broader sustainability goals.
“Gibson’s leadership will be vital as EFL advances its Green Energy Transition, particularly in developing 165 MW of solar power projects over the next four years,” Nabalarua stated.
Gibson’s achievements include successfully overseeing the commissioning of the Nadarivatu Hydroelectric Scheme in 2012, which exceeded performance expectations. As CEO, Gibson will prioritize modernizing Fiji’s energy infrastructure, improving grid resilience, and facilitating investments in clean energy projects. He will collaborate with stakeholders, government agencies, and industry partners to ensure that EFL continues providing reliable and sustainable electricity for the people of Fiji.
The board also expressed gratitude for the contributions of former CEO Hasmukh Patel, who has led EFL since 2008 and played a pivotal role in the corporatization and public listing of the company.
This leadership change represents a hopeful new chapter for EFL, as Gibson’s deep expertise promises to enhance sustainable energy solutions across Fiji and the Pacific region. His proven track record in various energy initiatives suggests that under his guidance, EFL may achieve significant advancements in renewable energy practices and project implementation, fostering a greener future for the community.
