The Prime Minister and chairman of the Constitutional Officers Commission has announced that Rusiate Tudravu will be nominated as the new Commissioner of Police, effective February 3, 2025. Prime Minister Rabuka emphasized that the Commission’s decision was unanimous and that there were no conflicts of interest involved.

In order to take on this new role, Mr. Tudravu will need to step down from his current position as chairman of the Tailevu Provincial Council. He has a long history with the Fiji Police Force, having resigned from his position in August 2021 after 39 years of service. During his tenure, he served as Deputy Commissioner and temporarily held the position of Commissioner for a year while the former Commissioner, Brig-Gen Qiliho, pursued studies in the UK.

This appointment of Rusiate Tudravu marks a promising transition in the leadership of the Fiji Police Force, showcasing the Commission’s confidence in his experience and capability to lead. Such changes often bring optimism for new initiatives in law enforcement and community safety, which are crucial for the development of a secure environment.

This development also highlights the importance of experienced leadership in the police force, as Mr. Tudravu’s extensive background equips him well for the responsibilities he will undertake.
