Deputy Secretary for i-Taukei Affairs, Jone Navakamocea, has been appointed as the Acting Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of i-Taukei Affairs, starting from March 31. This decision was officially announced by the Chairperson of the Public Service Commission, Luke Rokovada.
Rokovada clarified that the previous Permanent Secretary, Pita Tagicakirewa, has been on medical leave since the end of March and will take annual leave following his recovery. Navakamocea brings a wealth of experience to his new role, with over 30 years of expertise in economic planning and development in both government and the public sector. He holds a Master of Science degree in Macro Economics, Policy, and Planning in Developing Countries from the University of Bradford in England.
This appointment is significant as it underscores the government’s commitment to stable leadership, especially in key ministries. The transition provides an opportunity for ongoing development within the Ministry, with hopes that Navakamocea’s background will enhance the focus on economic empowerment and cultural heritage of the i-Taukei community.
Similar leadership changes have been observed recently, indicating a broader trend within the government to ensure qualified and experienced individuals lead crucial departments during transitions. Such strategic appointments can lead to innovative approaches, driving the ministry towards positive advancements in serving the needs of its communities.
