Navin Raj Shayam has been appointed as the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Education, according to Public Service Commission chairman Luke Rokovada. Mr. Shayam brings over a decade of experience as Principal and head of Jai Narayan College to his new role. His extensive background in the education sector spans both private and public sectors, and he is actively involved in various boards and councils, including the Fiji National University Council and Fiji Television Ltd.

Mr. Shayam holds a degree in science from the University of the South Pacific and is set to begin his new position in July. This appointment aligns with the ongoing reshuffling within the Ministry of Education and points toward a commitment to enhancing educational leadership.

Rokovada’s remarks about the need for transitions within the public service echo a broader strategy to enrich the quality and accessibility of education across Fiji. Ratu Meli Nacuva will temporarily assume the role of Acting Permanent Secretary for Education while maintaining his current responsibilities, a move that reflects the importance of experience and continuity during periods of change.

This new appointment of Mr. Shayam is seen as a positive step toward strengthening educational governance, as he is expected to leverage his extensive experience to address current challenges in the sector. Such changes not only signify an adaptive leadership strategy but also hold promise for nurturing future generations through improved educational frameworks.
