Matilda Simpson has been appointed the head girl of Suva Grammar School, marking an inspiring milestone in her leadership journey. Following in the footsteps of her family legacy, she takes on this role with determination, as both her father and brother have previously served as head boy at the school. Her father fulfilled the role in 1995, while her brother did so in 2020, creating a proud lineage of leadership that Matilda is excited to continue.
In her inaugural comments, Matilda expressed both gratitude and pride, saying, “Getting this role is a privilege for me, it’s an honour.” She highlighted the importance of mutual respect in her leadership style, advocating for a culture that upholds kindness and integrity among students. “Seeing each other for the humans that we are and having consideration for one another,” she noted, signifies her commitment to fostering a supportive school environment.
Alongside her, Inoke Rabukawaqa has been appointed head boy, and both leaders are dedicated to addressing key issues such as bullying during their time in office. Inoke has voiced a vision centered on unity, respect, and love within the student body. Together, they represent a new wave of leadership intent on motivating their peers and enhancing the school atmosphere.
The appointment ceremony was graced by Education Minister Aseri Radrodro, who acknowledged the vital role these leadership positions play in cultivating a positive school culture.
This ongoing trend of emerging young leaders across Fiji demonstrates a collective commitment to resilience and community support. Similar instances, such as Miriama Watikili and Mesake Cokanauto from All Saints Secondary School stepping into leadership roles, reinforce the notion that ambition and dedication can yield significant transformations in educational settings.
The partnership of Matilda and Inoke serves not only to uphold the traditions of Suva Grammar School but also to foster a progressive and respectful culture. Their determination stands as a beacon of hope for fellow students, showcasing the potential for meaningful change driven by passionate young leaders.
