New Leadership Dynamics: Jone Navakamocea Steps Up for I Taukei Affairs

Jone Navakamocea has been appointed as the Acting Permanent Secretary for I Taukei Affairs, Culture, Heritage, and Arts, starting from March 31, 2025. This appointment was confirmed by the Public Service Commission and has the Prime Minister’s endorsement.

Mr. Navakamocea, who previously worked as the Deputy Secretary Operations within the ministry, brings a wealth of experience to this role, boasting over 30 years in government economic planning and public sector development. His academic qualifications include a Master of Science degree in Macroeconomics, Policy, and Planning in Developing Countries from the University of Bradford in England.

He will replace Permanent Secretary Pita Tagicakirewa, who is on medical leave and will take annual leave following his recovery.

The recent appointment reflects ongoing changes in leadership within key government ministries, similar to the recent transition at the Office of the Prime Minister, where Dr. Raijeli Taga has been appointed as the Acting Permanent Secretary. These movements highlight the government’s responsiveness to the evolving needs of public service administration and indicate a focus on maintaining stability in leadership during transitional periods.

This new appointment for Mr. Navakamocea is an opportunity for continued progress in I Taukei Affairs, potentially bringing innovative ideas and strategies to enhance the cultural and heritage sectors while ensuring the needs of the I Taukei people are prioritized and represented in government policies. Such leadership transitions can lead to positive developments, and there is hope that under Mr. Navakamocea’s guidance, the ministry will thrive and effectively serve its communities.
