Ratu Josefa Dimuri has been elected as the senior vice president of the People’s Alliance, pledging to honor his new role. He was elected unopposed during the party’s General Assembly held in Lautoka last week, succeeding Rewa chief Ro Naulu Mataitini, who is currently in the United States.

Ratu Josefa acknowledged the challenges of filling such a significant position, particularly one previously held by the Vunivalu of Nukunitabua of Lomanikoro, Rewa. He expressed his intention to proceed thoughtfully, relying on divine guidance to fulfill the responsibilities bestowed upon him by the assembly and to advance the party’s goals.

He mentioned his surprise at not facing any competition for the role, stating that he would have stepped back had he been aware of another candidate. Ratu Josefa emphasized the presence of many capable individuals within the party who could contribute positively to its operations.

He also expressed respect for the trust placed in him by the two divisions that nominated him. Furthermore, he voiced strong support for increasing women’s participation in the party, reflecting sentiments shared by the head of the women’s wing. With enthusiasm, he mentioned the prospect of seeing a woman assume the role of president or vice president in the near future.
