Former Suva football player Pita Rabo has been appointed as the co-coach of the Suva Football Club, joining forces with ex-Tailevu Naitasiri goalkeeper Brian Singh. Rabo and Singh replace Babs Khan, who has stepped away from his role with the club.
Rabo expressed his gratitude regarding the new opportunity, stating, “I thank god and everyone who has supported me throughout my soccer career. Now I can enjoy coaching.” His enthusiasm is bolstered by previous experience on the coaching panel during Intiaz Khan’s presidency, allowing for a smoother transition as he integrates into the coaching staff.
Rabo’s immediate focus will be on preparing the team for their upcoming match against Nadroga in the Extra Premier League, following a recent 1-1 draw with Tavua that has put pressure on the team to deliver better results. The match is set for this Sunday at 3 pm at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
In addition, fans can look forward to other exciting fixtures this weekend, with Tavua facing Lautoka, and matches featuring Navua against Labasa and Nadi going up against Nasinu, all scheduled for Sunday.
Rabo’s new role reflects a growing trend in Fijian football where former players are stepping into coaching positions, an indication of the sport’s commitment to nurturing local talent and bringing experienced leaders to the forefront. As Suva gears up for a critical match, there is hope for a successful turnaround and enjoyable moments for fans and players alike in the coming season.
