The Public Service Commission, with the endorsement of Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, has announced the appointment of Paula Cirikiyasawa as the new Permanent Secretary for Lands and Mineral Resources, effective September 30, 2024.

Cirikiyasawa will take over from Dr. Raijeli Taga, who is transitioning to a new role after four years of dedicated service as Permanent Secretary. With more than twenty years of experience, Cirikiyasawa has held various senior positions in the Ministry of Commerce, Business Development and Investment, and the National Planning Office before joining the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 2018.

Luke Rokovada, Chairperson of the PSC, expressed excitement about Cirikiyasawa’s appointment, highlighting his proven leadership skills, innovative approach, and strategic vision as qualities that make him well-suited for the position. In his new role, Cirikiyasawa will oversee the ministry’s strategic direction and operations, focusing on innovation, expansion, and sustainability.

Cirikiyasawa holds a master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy, as well as a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science. In the meantime, Dr. Raijeli Taga will continue her work with the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources, assuming her new role in mid-October 2024. Rokovada acknowledged Dr. Taga’s significant contributions to the ministry’s accomplishments during her tenure.
