The Governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji, Ariff Ali, has announced the appointment of Caroline Pickering as the new Director of the Fiji Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), effective January 1, 2025. This appointment follows the retirement of Razim Buksh, who held the position until 2023.
Caroline Pickering currently serves as the Manager of Policy and Compliance with the Fiji FIU, a role she has held since joining the unit in 2006. Her extensive experience spans over 25 years in the financial sector, where she has played a crucial role in developing Fiji’s regulatory and supervisory framework aimed at combating money laundering and financial crime.
In her new role, Pickering will lead the FIU during a rapidly evolving digital financial landscape. She is expected to continue fostering partnerships with various government entities and the private sector to enhance the unit’s effectiveness in ensuring regulatory safeguards against financial crime. Throughout her career, she has not only held leadership roles but has also acted as Director on numerous occasions.
Pickering is an alumna of the University of the South Pacific, graduating with degrees in accounting and economics, and is a member of the Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Governor Ali expressed confidence in Pickering’s abilities, stating that her strategic leadership will be instrumental for the unit’s growth.
